The Rocker-U Interv-U:

Part 1: Standard Questions

Tell us about your journey into short track - how did you get started in the sport and where have you trained?
I started roller skating when I was 3 years old in California and grew into inline skating at age 7. I then picked up short track when I moved to Silver Spring, MD at age 8. I began speedskating on ice in Wheaton MD, then moved to Southern CA my senior year of High School. I'm currently in Pittsburgh PA.

What are the highlights of your skating career so far?
Making the Jr. World team - I ranked 38th at jr. world championships, and I'm the 2010 Intermediate men's national champion.

What's the worst skating injury you've ever had?
Severely slicing my left thigh in November 2008, requiring surgery - 60 stitches and 40 staples.

What was the lowest or most difficult moment in your ST career and how did you overcome it?
Deciding whether or not to continue after my injury - physical therapy was difficult both mentally and physically. I kept my head up and with the Olympic dream in mind I continued with my training.

Where is your favorite place to compete?
Jr. World Championships - Taipei, Taiwan. Most memorable because it was the first time I went out of the US to compete. The scenery and the experience of racing with other countries was exciting.

What's the funniest (or craziest) thing you've ever seen happen on the ice?
Simon Cho pivoting on his head! He leaned super far forward and used his helmet to pivot. Meaning he touched it to the ice. This is very difficult and risky but looks super cool.

What do you like to do when you're not skating?
I like to play piano, guitar, ping pong, and PS3

When you're competing away from home, what do you miss the most while you're gone?
My bed

Make a World Team

What do you see yourself doing long-term after your skating career is over?
Owning my own business
