"Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO:
For the Rocker-U Weekly Roundup, see University Press (News).
Short Track Speedskating: It's like NASCAR on ice - without seatbelts…
Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to ROCKER U
(Now THAT was easy, wasn't it? And you didn't even have to write an essay…)
This site was developed BY fans FOR fans. Skaters, parents, coaches and officials are most welcome, and your insight is always appreciated, as are corrections to erroneous facts. We're learning together, and we're grateful for any help!
ROCKER U's Mission:
1) Educate new fans in the basics of short track speedskating and familiarize them with its top-tier and up-and-coming skaters.
2) Through The Bookstore and Rocker-U Sk8rSites, we hope to enable skaters who don't have their own websites to have a place of their own to cultivate new fans, market their fundraising merchandise, and as a reference for potential sponsors.
3) Facilitate direct donations to individual skaters through Rocker-U Sk8rSites and our sister-site, TheRockerFund.org.
4) Assist in trip planning for those who want to attend competitions. We are confident that after attending just one event - hearing the whisper of the blades, seeing the ice chips fly, feeling the chilly 'breeze' created as the pack blasts by at over 30mph - and after meeting the skaters, their wonderful families, and other fans - you WILL fall hopelessly in love with short track. Our sincere hope is that once you do, you will then want to give back to its amazing athletes with much-needed donations to help fund their training.
5) At the Boots & Blades Forum, our goal is to create an environment where people can get acquainted, chat, ask questions, share information and learn about the sport.
Take a tour around 'campus', enroll in some courses, take a Road Trip with the team - HAVE FUN, but don't forget to study… Final Exams are just around the corner!
Attention Skaters:
Our goal is to inspire new fans to follow your careers and come out and cheer for YOU at competitions. Your personal input would be tremendously valuable. Please correct any erroneous info (or add items of interest) by Contacting Us.
Some features of Rocker-U.net that may be of interest to you:
Rocker-U Sk8rSites: "Not quite a website, but much MORE than a webpage"... Sk8rSites are 'websites-within-a-website' - for our nation's top-tier skaters, and they're absolutely free!
Featured Skater: I've been a bit lazy about this lately, but it will continue to be an integral part of Rocker-U. The interview is conducted via e-mail, so you'll have plenty of time to think about your answers before submitting! My selection of the Featured Skater is sometimes a 'crime of opportunity' - if I see you, I may ask for the interview, lol! Other than that, I request interviews in an unbiased, pre-determined order that gives a pretty good random balance between veterans and those who aren't quite so well-known. The interview consists of about 40 questions - a set of General Questions that I ask every skater, plus some 'Just For Fun' questions that are randomly selected for each interview. Skaters are featured for a minimum of one week (longer, if I don't have other interviews ready to go).
The Bookstore: If you're a USS-registered skater (at any level), and are selling merchandise to fund your skating, Contact Us to list your merchandise in The Bookstore.
Boots & Blades Forum: If you have ever raced in the Senior Division at an American Cup, you should have a thread on Boots & Blades! Your thread will be located on one of 4 boards, as follows:
The Starting Lineup: Current National Team members.
The Varsity: Active skaters who have ever competed for the USA in a World Cup/World Championships/Jr. World Championships or the Olympics.
The Junior Varsity: Active skaters who have ever reached Category 1 status, but have not met the criteria for The Varsity.
The Farm Team: Active skaters who have ever skated in Senior Division at an AmCup, but have never reached Cat 1 status.
Inactive Status: Skaters who have not raced at an AmCup in the Senior Division for at least 1 year.
If you know of a skater who should be listed or re-classified, please post let us know! Contact Us
